Did anyone else notice...

(ok, I'm nitpicking again...)

Did anyone else catch the disparity in Irulan and Wensicia's ages in the Children mini-series? I've been re-reading the prequels and realized that Irulan is the oldest of Shaddam's daughters and that Wensicia is 4 years younger than Irulan. However, her percieved age in the mini-series is older, and I *believe* at one point she refers to Irulan as "little sister"... Now, you could argue that the physical appearance of age settled on Wensicia more, due to Irulan spending many years on Arrakis, and therefor being exposed to greater amounts of spice, preserving her appearance of youth, but methinks that the writers/director simply overlooked the Corrino family timeline...

i just think that susan sarandon was chosen (well i might add) and the producers changed it up a bit, i.e. "little sister"....i am also of the opinion that they wished to make irulan more believable by her being closer to paul's age....and while i am sure the spice helped slow her aging, that's a stretch too, because she didn't really spend all that much time on dune until after paul was in charge....

Considering Winsica wasn't even a major player...

Much like how they played up Irulian in the Dune mini series. It was a dramatic licences use dto move along the story.

Take it with a grain of salt.

Well...actually there wasn't much evidence in the books that indicated that Irulan WAS that much older than Paul. Paul was 15 when he went to Arrakis, and over 12 years had passed in the time that he arrived to Arrakis to the time of Dune Messiah. Time enough for the Jihad.

While Irulan hadn't spent most of her life on Arrakis, Paul really only had about 4 years on her at most (estimating the time it would have taken him to train his Fedaykin for the assault on the Harkonen). In that amount of time, I'd imagine an age gap between Irulan and Wensicia(sp) could be rather obvious.

both Winsicia and Irulan are Bene Gesserit Adepts ,so they can manipulate internal chemistry to affect the aging process within limitations. Also......my younder brother happens to dwarf me as far as height and body mass, so even though I am 7 yrs older than he is he still calls me "little brother" remember it may be a stature diminutive and not a chronologic one. There is also the political competativeness factor to tkae into account, Wnicesia, although not married to the Emperoro of the known universe ( Paul) like Irulan is....DOES have the upper hand in that she is a TRUE wife allowed to bear offical heirs while Irulan has a better marriage in political terms but is bared from bearing an Imperial Heir by Paul's preference for Chani. Like all statements with Bene Gesserits the phrase "Little Sister" being used by Winsecia is intended to carry a multiplicity of overtones that can be variously interpurted depending on your perspective. Bene Gesserit do not waste words
